Summary
Wendy survives a house fire which took the life of her father but is left with no memory of the event. Her family has always been something of a mystery to the small town in which her families farm resided, indeed her own sudden appearance a few years ago was greeted with surprise. While recovering Wendy begins to get to know the community but she has a secret that even she doesn’t know. Slowly she begins to understand but the sinister Earl Vaughan seems to be one step ahead in an effort to profit from her tragedy.
Review
It’s very difficult to portray the brilliant aspects of this book without giving plot spoilers, so you’ll forgive me if I avoid specifics. It’s wonderfully written and the early parts of the book portray the small town atmosphere perfectly. This really gives the reader no indication of what’ll happen but the author doesn’t loose you in the banality; in fact the comfort lulls you but it’s entertaining. You’re then served a really ambitious, imaginative and original feeling story with some great “did that just happen!” moments which are all served up at a pace which contrasts with the first half of the book. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Why you’ll like it
Set in the 1980s without playing on stereotypes. Reads like a Lit Fic but with the content of a sci fi thriller.
Why you won’t
If you don’t like Sci Fi. Or if you like cover to cover action packed sci fi. If you disagree with Cheryl’s call (I did).
