Far Cry from the Turquoise Room by Kate Rigby
Far Cry from the Turquoise Room by Kate Rigby
Summary
Leila is the less favoured daughter of a wealthy Iranian immigrant. Her life is rich and spoilt until a horrifying event damages the whole family. The multiple narrators of the story show us the experience of different family members once their safe bubble has been burst.
Review
Beautifully written and unputdownable. Kate Rigby inhabits her characters deftly changing from a fragile young girl to a heartbroken father without losing any authenticity. The plot is compelling and explores the timeless issues of class in the UK. Her gentle pop culture references subtly place a UK reader in a recognisable early 2000s context.

Why you’ll like it: Compelling plot, wonderful attention to detail, well-rounded characters.
Why you won’t: The dialect of one of the characters was a little jarring at first.
